Sophia Byass -Gambia’s Version of Saucy Spice

Gambia have gotten its version of Jamaica’s raunchy dancehall queen Spice in budding talent Sophia Byass.

Formerly a primary school teacher, Sophia has spiced up not only her lyrics with sauciness but her photo shots as well, showing more flesh or leaving little to the imagination.

Her music is soaring heights and gave Stockholm folks last year a taste of what she’s about when she unbelievably converted a theatrical on-stage gaffe to a twerk dance which appeared to have won over most during her debut European tour.

Not shy of making daring moves, she often take her raunchy ways to photo shootings and wears sometimes camouflaged skimpy body-fit matched with fish-net-like leggings with provocative dance steps.

In a highly religious Gambian community comprising Muslims and Christians with a solid agitation against skimpy wears, Sophia’a brand of music and moves amazingly skips past those societal controls.

Her genre of music is male dominated but Sophia who, also has Sierra Leone ancestry, and former church choir member -or so we’re told – isn’t held back or intimidated by this.

Today she is one of those female mic-stars who move crowds.
