Mosques Still Operating despite Ban on Public Prayer

Mosques in The Gambia continue to operate despite calls for an end to public prayer.

Supreme Islamic Council -the country’s Muslims body – issued a dispatch this week urging imams cease conducting public prayers at mosques over the wake of coronavirus.

Gambia have only a single death of the Covid-19 with only two positive cases for now amid fears there could be more cases out there.

And in efforts to contain spread of the deadly virus that has killed over 20,000 globally infecting over 462,000 people, the SIC made a statement aimed at persuading muslim leaders to pray at home instead of of the mosque where chances of transmissions remain high.

However, a couple of mosques are open and continue to stage the five daily prayers of Islam in public cross the greater Banjul area.
