Gambia Nears Lock Down as Institutions Close over Coronavirus

Gambia is on the brink of going under lock down as public institutions temporarily cease operations as fear grip the public over coronavirus.

Thought to have been one of few African countries with no cases, Gambians were left worried following news of a positive case of the covid-19.

Up to 355 persons were subjected to screening out of which 149 are cleared of the ailment while the remaining 206 are under surveillance, according to president Barrow.

The first positive case of the virus came after an unidentified UK-based Gambian lady in her 20s flew in the country last Sunday and turned herself in at the Medical research Centre (MRC) after fearing displaying symptoms of the pandemic despite initially self-isolating.

The parliament, TRRC – a body investigating rights violations under Jammeh – and the courts have all followed suit to halt work as the nation battle to contain the dreaded epidemic-turned pandemic.
