Regaining Confidence with Goals -Assan Ceesay’s New Journey

There were apparent loopholes when decision was taken to ship the Gambia international out on loan to German second division side Osnabrucks.

FC Zurich had a new Mr. reliable ordained to deliver task Assan Ceesay couldn’t execute -scoring the goals. The scorpion before then had not been, in all honesty, living to expectations.

Five goals in two seasons are returns way short of the benchmark for a top side like FC Zurich capable of figuring in the Uefa Champions League. So to get them living up to the name they bear, there was need for a revamp, clearing all the dead wood along with those shooting below the belt.

Assan suits the latter category and taking into account Zurich parted with over D61million Gambian worth dalasis to secure him from Lugano, longing to have the attacker shipped out on loan gained prominence among club board members.

Falling down the pecking order could be recipe for confidence crisis and while it’s uncertain the Gambian endured this, it’s not being ruled out he might have experienced it and hence the requirement for change of scenery to relaunch his career.

Osnabrucks will be the stage for that reinvention. However, there too success was considerably low evidenced by his one goal return out of 11 matches further worsened by a suspension slammed on him by the FA in Berlin for a kung-fu kick aimed at an opponent he argues was inadvertent.

Now he is back at FC Zurich, back to force his way into the gaffer’s thinking who initially was persuaded Ceesay was a work-in-progress.

Assan knows instant success will be fertile ground for a rebirth and he has hit the ground running beginning in preseason games to show he could be relied on.

The 25-year-old was on target over the weekend scoring both goals: the first a follow-up and the second a brilliant coaxing of the net-minder and a resultant slotting into an empty net after a through-ball.

The jury is till out on his case though.
