“My Hero Is Gone, My Friend Is Gone And My Heart Is Broken,” Biri’s Footballer Son Mourns

Bir Biri’s death has touched the football world but certainly not like Yusupha Njie who’s still rendered shocked at the passing of his father.

Chrsistened Alhajie Momodou Njie, Biri died last Sunday and was committed to mother earth yesterday afternoon after a state burial.

Biri’s demise even had the calibre of Real Madrid joining rest of Gambia to mourn the 72-year-old.

His son is however, touched the most having been rendered forlorn as a result.

“I couldn’t get over your absence but the memories you left have been sustaining me. I still hold on to your good advice and kind words. Today is the day that you’ve been laid to rest. My hero is gone my friend is gone and my heart is been broken. You always taught me to be strong no matter,”Yusupha, a Gambia international himself, contracted to Portuguese side Boavista, wrote in an emotional tribute.

He continued: “I can never be strong enough to accept that you’re no longer here with us.I know even if you are not in this world to protect me, you are right in heaven serving as my guardian angel. I will feel your presents in my life every day your memories will keep me moving.

“I’m so proud to call you my dad and happier to be your son. My superhero. He loved me for who I was and accepted me for who I was striving to become. We all will miss you and pray for you always till we meet again.”

Chaired by veteran journalist Peter Gomez, yesterday’s funeral was attended by hundreds with president Adama Barrow one of those in attendance.

Biri is the first Gambia international and helped lead Sevilla promotion to the Laliga.
