Gambian Muslims have been urged to pray at home this Koriteh by the Supreme Islamic Council.
The SIC’s response aired minutes ago on state-funded TV GRTS, was aimed at clearing the air over how this year’s prayers is to be performed in the wake of the Covid-19.
And delivering a talk, Islamic council’s president Mohamadou Lamin Touray, urged muslims to heed to the lock down laws and desist from opening mosques ahead of this Sunday’s prayer.
” Scholar of the Ummah have agreed that prayers could be done at home so you can stay at home and pray there in your houses. The only difference between the prayer at home and the one at mosque is , the prayer at home does not need Khutba (sermons). It involves two rakas with seven takbirs. Please observe the Covid-19 laws,” Touray said.
Several imams have been arrested, trialed and sentenced for defying state of emergency orders and staging public Friday prayers.
Muslims are expected to pray on Sunday with tomorrow to mark end of the fasting period.
