An Imam has been apprehended for defying a ban on gathering and public prayer.
Muslims stage mandatory congregational prayer on Fridays however that has now ceased following government’s order for mosques and churches be closed in a bid to contain the lethal coronavirus.
However, the imam of Jarra Kani Kunda defied this to lead a congregational prayer prompting police to swoop in on him.
The public has been reacting to the imam’s arrest who’s being held at Mansakonko amid calls for his prosecution.
” He should be locked up and everyone that attended that gathering until there’s a vaccine or we’re CORONA free,” Tworay Gambiano said.
Alexande Amaehule weighed in: “Ask them to come and caution the one at Fajikunda too. The funnest thing is that they’re praying just adjacent to Fajikunda Police station.”
” No man is above the law and this is what many people fail to practice in the Gambia.
