Ismaila Ceesay has ditched his Swedish citizenship to run for Gambia’s hot-seat occupied by Adama Barrow.
Vying for the hot-potatoe seat under the Citizens Alliance ticket, the UTG lecturer launched to the scenes after getting arrested for a political statement prompting Barrow’s awkward : “where were you Dr Ceesay” utterance.
Seeing the litany of sympthisers hurling his way, Ceesay seized on the presented chance to forge into politics and is today the runner for CA.
Standing in his way from attaining the set out objective was his dual citizenship one which is the Swedish own which he has ditched today awaiting clearance from the electoral chairman who would then give the all-clear.
Making public this statement he said on his wall an hour ago: “am delighted to inform you all that I have finally officially renounced my Swedish Citizenship and met all eligibility criteria to run for President in the December 4 elections. I am looking forward to submitting my nominations papers to the IEC on Tuesday, November 2, for consideration as a presidential candidate.
“I thank you all for the support and encouragement and we are now more than ever before ready to win the elections and start the process of transforming our country for the benefit of this generation and the next. The sacrifices we make and continue to make for our country is worth it and we will make the same sacrifices again when the need arises. For us, country comes first before anything else.”
