PPP’s leader Papa Njie today dropped a bombshell claiming a mere D76 was the sole sum in the accounts of the country’s Basketball association when he became its president.
Papa was first elected Gambia Basketball Association (GBA) head March 2012 then won a renewed mandate four years later before stepping down March last year.
Njie placed his feet off the pedal of the b-ball body three months following his ushering in as the People’s Progressive Party’s leader.
While the defeated KMC mayoral candidate’s reign is credited for resurrecting the sport, Njie today made a shocking revelation claiming he found just D76 in the GBA coffers when he became’s president in 2012.
” I was elected GBA president. Basketball had been down for ten years in this country and we revived it. Now we even have a league in place each season. When I was elected, we found just D76 is the accounts but within six months we were able to scoop almost a million through networking. We did not win trophies but the lads were able to get international exposure,” Papa Njie said.
