
President Adama Barrow has gone into self-isolation after it emerged his deputy Isatou Touray has contracted the pandemic.
Touray contracted the illness having attended a recent meeting in which one of the key speakers died and tested positive later of the covid-19.
The news spread fast after the VP began displaying symptoms of the human-killer disease that has affected over 16 million globally, killing over 652,000.
In line with stringent doctor-patient rules, Touray’s health status hasn’t been disclosed yet.
Gambia experienced its first covid-19 case after a UK-based woman flew over in Banjul via Royal Air Maroc in March.
She was tested but showed no signs before self-reporting to the MRC having displays the symptoms.
Currently the death rate hits eight with three health centres closed as doctors become the worst affected by the virus.
