
Gambia is thrown into mourning this morning following the passing of George F Gomez, the man to stage the country’s first beauty pageant.
Educated in the United Kingdom, George returned to the Gambia in 1980 but launched to prominence in 1963 when he staged Banjul’s premier miss event which Juana Jahumpa Njie scooped.
Also being later executive director of the Gambia’s Olympic Bureau, Gomez in another achievement he registered, facilitated travel of Gambia’s music band the Super Eagles for an event in London.
For his numerous achievements, George was conferred with a life time achievement accolade for his contributions in promoting fashion, culture and tourism.
