BADAMOSI -Gambia’s Next Big Thing in the Belgian League

Blessed is Gambia, a tiny West African nation in the area of sport, specifically football.

They boast a legion of players notably in the Italian Serie A and of late in the English Premier League with players from the Smiling Coast now the centre of focus of top clubs in Europe.

However, there is this new gem sparkling diamond in the rough in Muhammed Badamosi, a mammoth presence in front of goal eye-marked Gambia’s next goal-obsessed Ronaldo.

Scouted from Jola Kunda, a community based in Bundung, a small town within big city Serrekunda, Nawettan football then local league club Real de Banjul prior to moving to Senegal are his routes before he sealed a deal to Morocca’s FUS Rabat, a development culminating into a deserved transfer to Belgium.

Badamosi is tipped to revel and follow in the steps of compatriots Ibou Sawaneh and Mustapha Toubabo Jarju who had impressive narratives in the Belgian League.

The 22-year-old was hurled into the mix in the 70th minute as his new club Kortrijk whom he signed a three-year deal with lagged behind a goal from Zulte-Waregem on Monday.

The Moroccan Botola championship, where he was plucked off from, is streets apart from what obtains in the Belgian league but the powerful striker won’t be lacking in inspiration if he needed one with the journeys of Sawaneh and Toubabo there for the telling.

Ibou, an average striker-turned consistent goal-getter in the height of his powers, was nearly crowned the league’s best scorer in the 2012/2013 season when he scored 18 times for OH Leuven.

He narraowly missed out on the golden to DR Congo’s Mbokani by two goals. Toubabo, a former national team skipper, was not the one staking claim for the top-scoring prize but fetched double figure goals before he left for the US’s MLS and later Kazakhstan’s Premier League.

Muhammed, a new recruit for Kortrijk, will have these two to look up to or better still upstage if he must make his presence felt in the Belgian championship.

He came off the bench to participate in the one-all stalemate having a twenty minutes run down in the pitch. Fans will be expecting he come of good to help lift the team spirits.
