With First Coronavirus Death in The Gambia -Here are the Blood Groups Exposed to the Virus

Worry is the overall feeling hovering as Gambians come to terms with news of their first coronavirus patient’s death.

Heath minister Lamin Samateh yesterday night confirmed Gambia’s first covid-19 death is a 70-year-old Bangladeshi man who have been to series of countries before landing into the country on preaching mission.

He is believed to have died on the way to hospital after displaying symptoms of the pandemic.

As reality now grips a country who went ahead to stage public Friday prayer despite ban imposed on gatherings, Gambia News makes a list of blood groups susceptible or likely to contact the disease.

Blood Group A: This category is reported to be most likely to contact the rampaging ailment with chances pegged at about 20%, according a study by MedRxiv, a specialised journal.

Blood Group O: This group is classed the best and is believed to have lesser rate of getting infected with chance of escaping pegged at 30%.

This data is based on findings by University of Shenzhen, an epicenter in Wuhan, China where the pandemic first broke out.

The aforesaid research is pinned based on 2,173 infected individuals hospitalized in Wuhan and Shenzhen, with 10% of deaths due to the coronavirus.

The study compared these infected patients to 3,694 people living in Wuhan who were not infected with Covid-19.
