Erstwhile army chief Lang Tombong Tamba was left virtually unconscious after being subjected to severe beatings, reveals former prisons boss Ansumana Manneh.
A Sintet-born, Tamba was nabbed, trial and sentenced over charges of plotting to unseat Yaya Jammeh.
Rising to the aforesaid military portfolio, the 55-year-old was elevated by Jammeh for leaking Ndure Cham’s takeover intentions in 2006.

And recalling treatment meted out to him during his jail term, Asnumana an hour ago told of How Tamba was taken out and subjected to excruciating pains during routine grilling purportedly at the spies bureau.

“One of the prison officer Ebrima Ceesay lost his job for complaining. Tamba was taken out of his cells and taken away only to be brought back almost unconscious. Ceesay wasn’t happy and complained severely. He too I think was manhandled and when he returned he lost his job,” Manneh told an ongoing commission probing right violations under Jammeh’s tenure.
Tamba eventually got pardoned by Jammeh in 2015 after spending six years in prison.
