CORONAVIRUS: Gambia Calls for Tight Border Patrol amid Alarm Foreign Nationals are Sneaking into the Country

Gambia have urged for tight control of its frontiers following news foreign nationals from hot spot coronavirus areas are sneak into the country.

The West African nation registered its second corona case today in two days which turned out to be its first non-imported case.

A new case was labelled yesterday before today’s own, taking number of active cases to three.

The development sends the combined list of confirmed cases to twelve all of whom have been imported with the exception of today’s.

On the backdrop of this, Gambia’s land border, close to Senegal, is reported to be porous where yesterday’s confirmed case sneaked in through from.

With a considerably weak health sector, authorities are increasingly concerned amid calls for tighter patrol of the border by security personnel there.

“We would like to call on the general public not to be complacent and covid-19 is real. We would like to use this platform to call local government authorities and the security especially those in border patrols or borderline communities to carry out closer patrols and movements of people within their jurisdiction,” Mustapha Bittaye, health director said.
