A court has thrown out of the window a request to free former Jammeh’s right hand man Ousman Sonko.
Standing trial on rights abuses including the killing of journalist Deyda Hydara, Sonko fled Gambia October 2016 after falling out with his boss former president Jammeh for destination Spain where he lived in a makeshift refugee camp.
However, he was soon spotted out and later arrested after Binta Jamba, wife of a soldier he allegedly masterminded in killing, pressed charges against him of raping her 60 times.
A request was filed his attorneys before a court in Switzerland hearing the case requesting his release – a move that got rejected by the trial judge.

The decision, means the former state guard commander and minister of interior will remain in jail for now.
