“Ak-47 Was Placed on My Chest, and Everyone that Witnessed It Was Terrified,”

Momodou Alieu Njai recounts a terrifying encounter of April 10th 11th -a sad chapter that had students maimed and some killed.

Occurring while erstwhile leader Yahya Jammeh was away and triggered by the rough-handling of a student by security personnel, students took to the streets waving placards and demonstrating strongly against government reprisal.

Momodou was one of those survivors of that attack and talks of how he escaped a gun placed on his chest twenty-one years ago.

21yrs ago I was removed from our compound by 3 soldiers at gunpoint. My crime was that I was a student, and a student had ran in the compound. With the intervention of my mum screaming for my release, and my neighbors watching closely on the street, I was let go after they were told the student jumped over the fence. Luckily for him, he was hid in the toilet and later ran to safety. The Ak-47 was placed on my chest, and everyone that witnessed it was terrified. May the victims of April 10th& 11th Rest In Peace. I choose love over hate & mercy over bitterness. May such never occur again in our history, and may we educate our security officers that the pen is mightier,” Naji , son to election chairman Momar Naji wrote.
